About Us:
Sweet Dream Amaryllis is a family-run nursery, first started up by Mike and Shellie Sweet in Valrico, Florida. They became interested in amaryllis while living in Australia, where they were introduced by friends to the Maguires and their Maguire's Hippeastrum Farm. The family business lifestyle was appealing, and upon their return to the U.S. in 2003 they began to make this dream a reality.
Fast forward to present day it is now owned by Justin and Sylvia Collins who are continuing this family run nursery. Justin's interest in amaryllis started at a young age while working in the garden with his Great Grandmother. Since then he has collected various amaryllis varieties over the years and has started his own hybridizing of new varieties.
Mick and Nelli Maguire's over 25 years of hybridizing amaryllis has produced an extensive collection, and we have imported and propagated over 100 different types. Their plants are bred to perform in Australia's climate, which is very similar to the United States, making these bulbs well suited to our gardens. Our original stock of 70 varieties, approximately 350 bulbs, has grown to over 20,000. We are also now several years into hybridizing our own new varieties.
